Striving for a Healthier You

Dr Kelly Chipperfield is a Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years experience providing psychological support and care to adolescents, adults, couples and families. Kelly is passionate about supporting her clients to become their best self both individually and in their relationships. Her warm, friendly and pragmatic approach to therapy, builds trust and maintains connection with clients, whilst addressing barriers and facilitating change. Kelly has a good sense of humour, encouraging clients to see this lighter side of life.

Kelly’s extensive experience working with athletes and across hospital settings has developed specific skills and expertise in the areas of Sport and Health Psychology. Kelly holds Clinical Endorsement with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA) and is a psychology board approved supervisor for provisional psychologists and clinical psychology registrars. Kelly is registered with Medicare to provide services under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative. Having a strong sporting background personally and providing psychological services to professional athletes and their partners, inspired Kelly’s creation of Strive Psychology. It is hoped that this service can provide support to individuals, couples and in particular sporting and corporate industries more broadly through education and workshops, to enhance mental health and wellbeing outcomes.

THE FACE BEHIND STRIVE PSYCHOLOGY

Strive Philosophy and Values

When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too. – Paulo Coelho

The Strive Psychology philosophy is about aspiring to be healthiest version of yourself, physically and emotionally, in whatever it is you are doing. Life challenges are tackled in a realistic, balanced and empathic way, recognising the need to accept what we cannot change and focus on taking control of what we can influence to improve overall wellbeing and support personal growth. Clients are encouraged to be curious, kind and vulnerable in striving to grow, change and find happiness in all aspects of life whether it be work, relationships or health and wellbeing. In relationships, building trust, mutual respect and empathy is recognised as the key to connection.

Kelly recognises that sporting industry and corporate wellness is not only a response to mental health concerns but requires a preventative and holistic approach to improve overall wellbeing and enhance culture. Workshops and psycho-education programs provided by Kelly are focused on encouraging individuals and couples to connect and achieve health in all aspects of their lives, not only their careers.

Kelly will meet with you to get an understanding of your organisations needs and tailor a workshop or program that may include both face-to-face or online workshops and individual work as required. Kelly recognises the unique needs of different organisations and will work with you to establish a program based on your organisation’s priority areas and budget.

Kelly is an engaging, confident and witty presenter, appealing to any audience with her sense of realism and personal anecdotes. She has presented research at conferences both Nationally and Internationally, with extensive experience delivering presentations and public speaking.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Individuals and couples are more than welcome to call and arrange an appointment without a referral.

Referrals are also welcomed from GPs, psychologists, psychiatrists, other health professionals, sporting organisations and corporate enterprises.

Unfortunately, psychological services are not provided to third parties such as Workcover, NDIS, TAC or Victims of Crime.

  • A standard session runs for 55 minutes. For information regarding fees please make contact with the clinic.

  • Prior to your first appointment, you may like to see your GP to assess if you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP). This entitles you to a rebate of $131.65 per session, for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

To process your rebate, a copy of your referral letter and MHCP from your GP is required. Your GP can send this directly via email, or you can provide a hardcopy, you are welcome to bring it with you on the day of your first appointment.

  • A partial rebate may also be available through your private health insurance. It is best to contact your health insurance provider directly to discuss whether your policy includes psychological services extras cover.

Please note that rebates through your private health insurance are not available on consultations where a Medicare rebate is being claimed.

  • Appointments can take place online via video consultation. Medicare and private health funds have committed to funding online therapy services.

If you would prefer your appointment to be conducted via telehealth, please advise of this when making an appointment and a link will be sent to your email prior to the session, allowing you to access the appointment online using a computer, iPad or phone.

Appointments comply with privacy laws and will not be recorded. Coviu is the platform that is used for telehealth consultations due to its high level of security and stability.

Research suggests that psychological interventions delivered online can be just as effective in reducing psychological symptoms of distress and improving functioning, as interventions delivered face-to-face.
