MEET THE PSYCHOLOGIST

I am a Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years experience providing psychological support and care to adolescents, adults, couples and families across hospital settings and with professional athletes. Having previously worked at the Alfred, Cabrini and Epworth Hospitals, I developed expertise in the areas of Health Psychology and Psycho-Oncology. I have extensive experience in psychological assessment and intervention for patients with a cancer diagnosis and providing support to their families, with specific skills in addressing end of life issues, bereavement, sexual concerns, living with uncertainty and fear of recurrence.

My Doctoral research on psychological factors and physical activity during treatment for prostate cancer has been published in a number of reputable journals and presented at conferences both Nationally and Internationally. Having been involved in hospital-based pain management programs, I developed specialised skills to assist clients in managing persistent pain. Having held Senior Clinical positions within hospital settings, I have developed specific skills in managing behaviours of concern, dealing with complex trauma, substance use and complicated grief, loss and adjustment.

My most extraordinary and challenging role to date has been becoming a mother of two beautiful boys. Motherhood has been filled with so many triumphs and tribulations, exposing my personal challenges with patience! Parenting is a constant work in progress and I am always amazed at what my children and this journey has taught and continues to teach me. Since returning from maternity leave and personally experiencing the transition and adjustment to motherhood, I have developed an interest and passion for working with clients experiencing post-natal challenges.

I draw on a variety of evidence-based methods in tailoring treatment for clients including Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology, Schema Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and Neuropsychotherapy. Once becoming a parent and recognising the profound impact children can have on relationships, I completed training as a Gottman Couples therapist. I am a Level 2 trained Gottman Couples therapist and a Certified Leader of the Gottman Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work program.

When not at work, I can be found running around at the park with my two cheeky boys and my precious fur baby, Maggie, who is a fun loving, hilarious Staffy dog. I enjoy keeping fit at the gym and being active outdoors, often water-skiing, camping, swimming or at the beach on weekends.

Work on yourself more than you do on your job.
